SEATTLE - March 27, 2000 -- The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced winners of the 72nd Annual Academy Awards last night. Among this year's winners is a live action comedy - My Mother Dreams the Satan's Disciples in New York, directed by Barbara Schock, produced by Tamara Tiehel. My Mother Dreams the Satan's Disciples in New York is a mother/daughter/biker comedy about a Midwestern housewife who travels to Manhattan for the first time and begins to spin a fantasy about the seemingly malevolent motorcycle club housed across the street from her daughter's East Village apartment. This is Barbara Schock's graduate thesis film from the American Film Institute.

    My Grandmother Ironed the King's Shirts - an animated short by first-time Oscar nominee Torill Kove, combining historical events and fantasy with sharp humor and storytelling.
  • The Old Man and the Sea - Alexandre Petrov's third Academy Award nomination, this is the story of a once strong and proud fisherman, Santiago, who is coming to terms with his age and lot in life.
  • When the Day Breaks - an animated treatment of urban life which the filmmakers describe as a "four year labor of love"; Wendy Tilby's second nomination, and co-directed by Amanda Forbis.
