JIBJAB AND ATOMFILMS RUFFLE POLITICAL FEATHERS WITH THE RELEASE OF "GOOD TO BE IN DC!"
Sequel to Web Hit "This Land" Available Online Evening of October 7th
Los Angeles, CA and San Francisco, CA (October 7, 2004) Just in time for the election debates, JibJab has partnered with AtomFilms to release the sequel to their Internet blockbuster, "This Land." The sequel, titled "Good to be in DC!" is set to the classic American folk song "Dixie" and this time around, no one in Washington is safe. Brothers Gregg and Evan Spiridellis take aim at George Bush, John Kerry, Al Gore, Dan Rather, John Ashcroft and many more in the new cartoon, which once again brings a dose of hilarity to the intense presidential election season.
In an unprecedented move, "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno" is premiering the animation on Thursday, October 7th. Immediately after the East Coast premiere, at 11:40 pm (EST), 8:40pm (PST), "Good to be in DC!" will be available online at both www.JibJab.com and www.atom.com.
"The Internet allowed us to reach a worldwide audience without a middleman and that's an incredibly powerful thing for creators", says JibJab co-founder Gregg Spiridellis. "Before 'This Land' we couldn't have dreamed of a Tonight Show debut."
"This Land" has been viewed more than 50 million times by the online audiences at JibJab.com and AtomFilms.com, outpacing the average television viewership of the Democratic National Convention (20.6 million) and The Republican National Convention (22.6 million) (Source: Nielsen). In addition, according to Comscore Media Metrix, the parody attracted more than 3 times the audience that visited both candidates' campaign websites in July.
"We've been partnering with AtomFilms for almost five years", added Spiridellis. "Their expertise in the mass-market commercial distribution of online entertainment is unparalleled. We're thrilled to be back in business with them."
"The overwhelming success of "This Land" proves that digital entertainment is becoming a mainstream form of political commentary," states Mika Salmi, CEO and founder of AtomFilms. "JibJab's parodies are giving us a welcome break from the heated political battle that the nation is facing. The water cooler conversations are going off!"
"Good to be in DC!" does have one underlying message that Americans of all political persuasions can agree on: Go out and VOTE on November 2nd!
