THE FIRST SHORT INSPIRED, DIRECTED AND PRODUCED BY ATOM INSIDERS
Seattle, WA - October 24, 2000 -- AtomFilms and IAM.COM today announced the worldwide premiere of Talk To Taka-the first, live-action short created by Atom's online community of consumers and filmmakers. The film debuts on Tuesday, October 24, only four months after being green-lit by Atom's community of over 1.5 million registered Insiders. Directed by Atom filmmaker Rich Kim (Kung Pao Chicken) and produced by Atom Insider, Eel Jin Chae, Talk To Taka features Pat Morita (Mr. Miyagi from The Karate Kid) as a sushi chef whose passion is more than rice and fish - it's giving love advice. Atom partnered with IAM.COM, an online casting resource, to co-finance and supply a talent pool for the MogulMaker production.
Talk to Taka completes Atom's MogulMaker initiative - a first in a series of community-powered entertainment campaigns which Atom and IAM.COM kicked-off back in April 2000. By removing the barriers of entry into Hollywood for filmmakers and opening up opportunities for consumers to break into show business, Atom is fulfilling its mission to empower new talent and bridge the gap between filmmakers and consumers. Eel Jin Chae, an aspiring film student and an avid Insider, was selected by the Atom community to be the project's executive producer.
In addition to the online debut, Atom sponsored an AMPAS screening (Academy Motion Picture Arts and Science), which was held in a local Santa Monica theatre on October 20-22 - making Talk to Taka eligible for this year's Academy Awards. Atom Mavericks, a group of film enthusiasts from around the world who actively volunteer to host screenings and promotions of Atom shorts, have also been enlisted to screen Talk to Taka throughout their communities. The film will be distributed via Atom's worldwide distribution network, which includes cable/TV, airlines, theatres and more.
