Atom’s Comic-Con team headed for the eighth annual Lucasfilm-Atom Star Wars Fan Movie awards ceremony on Friday night. As always, the Lucas crew packed two or three thousand die-hard Star Wars fans into the big ballroom here at Comic-Con, cheering on the best of the year’s crop of fan films submitted to http://starwars.atom.com.

The Winners — Major congratulations to Joseph Nicolosi, whose hilariously ditzy
Star Wars: Retold took home the George Lucas Selects Award, earning a message of congratulations from the Man himself. And to
Saber, Adam Green’s Force-wielding, garment-shredding deodorant spoof which earned two awards – the Audience Award and Best Action. Check out the full list of winners and finalists
HERE.
But that wasn’t all, not by a longshot. The ceremony had a bunch of surprises:
The sexy fan movie, “Saber” took home its share of hardware
Olivia Munn wants YOU! As Atom fans knew, but most of the people in the room did not, Olivia Munn showed up to present the Best Action award. She then told Lucasfilm’s Steve Sansweet that she really wanted to do a fan film herself, and showed a funny new video that ended in a plea for fans to pitch her new ideas. And thus was the
Operation Olivia contest launched. Pitch an idea right here on Atom and you could be making a movie with Olivia Munn. (If you’re at Comic-Con make sure to see Olivia at our fan film panel tonight at 8:30 in Room 7AB.)

This action’s bigger than the Oscars
Gangsta Rap sequel in the hizzy! Chris Crawford, one of the three co-creators of the most popular fan film of all time, went on-stage to show a 1-minute preview of an all-new sequel, Star Wars Gangsta Rap Chronicles, that will be coming to Atom soon.
Seth Green!: Scott Powers/Robot Chicken himself was on hand to present the Audience Award, and he truly relished being part of a huge crowd of like-minded nerds. And, he was surprised and delighted when he opened the envelope to read that the winner was Saber – starring his girlfriend, Clare Grant, as one of the flick’s sexy Jedi brawlers.

Dave Filoni: The Supervising Director of Clone Wars told the finalists that fan filmmaking has gotten so good that this year’s crop actually deserved to drop the “fan” label. “We’re all just Star Wars fans making Star Wars films – not Star Wars fan films, Star Wars films,” he said (or something to that effect).
So, congratulations to all of the winners, finalists and the hundreds of entrants in the 2009 Fan Movie Challenge! Start thinking about your films for 2010 – and what you’re going to pitch to Olivia. And hey, if you’re at Comic-Con, come see us at the Atom booth, #3445.
