We’re diving San-Deep* into the mind of the Legend of Neil creator Sandeep Parikh. He’s been so kind as to offer commentary on the episodes that comprise Season 2 in this, the first of multiple installments on Sandeep’s process in creating his hit series, The Legend of Neil. Here’s what he had to say about creating the first two episodes of this season:
“The exteriors in the forest were by far our toughest shoot days, we had very limited equipment, and it’s very expensive to shoot out there because we need to bring all the facilities to us. We rented a trailer unit that ended up being a huge chunk of our budget but otherwise there’s no way to get the moblins into makeup as they have to show up 2 hours before sunrise in order to get into makeup and leave us enough sunlight to get through our days. Also it rained on us. And on our second day firefighters showed up to literally cut down our set while we were shooting. We staved them off for one day, thank god. Crazily enough that set has burned down in the recent LA fires, but it WASN’T OUR FAULT, I swear (It was Tony’s fault)!”
“The rupees are made out of bars of soap. The cave walls are made from paper. The arrow was custom built from a dowel and I think clay for the tips. The “back room” of the cave that holds the money making game (and yes I do know that in the game the store keeper doesn’t host the money making game, the old man does, I just don’t care) is the same room as the front room we just adjusted the lighting (brilliantly by our DP Bry Sanders, and a good chunk of The Guild lighting team including Jared Hoy and John Schmidt) and some of the set dressing to make it look different. Most of the extras are members of the crew. My production crew is f*&%ing awesome!”
And there you have a small glimpse into what it took to make The Legend Of Neil a reality. Tune in tomorrow for part 2 in the commentary series and later in the week for the entire, unedited .
* Sorry guys. I couldn’t help myself.
