  1. The Star Wars Fan Movie Challenge Deadline Is Less Than Twelve Parsecs Away

The Star Wars Fan Movie Challenge deadline is tomorrow! Now is the time to get your videos uploaded by June 24th Noon PST if you want to be the next lucky filmmaker to be crowned a “George Lucas Selects” recipient by the big GL himself.  Be sure to consult the challenge info page at StarWars.Atom.com for full information on how to enter. Stick around,  StarWars.Atom.com is the hub for blog posts, community interaction and the voting for the audience choice awards (starting July 22nd).

Too bad these awesome, light-saber-esque Wicked Lasers Spyder Laser III weren’t on the market. I bet they’d really spice up your fan movie*. Thank Yodasnews.com for the awesome heads up on these sweet devices of destruction.

*This is totally a joke. We really, really, really don’t want you running around wielding actual laser swords that can hurt people in the name of anything, let alone a fan movie challenge.  SO DON’T DO IT.

  2. Everybody Talk About Johnny B. Homeless

Our newest series, Johnny B. Homeless is racking up a ton of great press these days. Check out what The LA Times, MTV, TV Guide, and Yahoo!’s OMG! And check out the newest episodes, including a guest appearance from Kenan Thompson!

  3. Star Wars Fan Movie Challenge Flashback: Silent But Deadly

In honor of this years’ Star Wars Fan Movie Challenge, we’re looking back over nine years of winning fan movies, and highlighting our favorites. Be sure to get your fan movie in by the June 24th deadline!

The Deadline is almost here (the 24th) and some really awesome uploads have rolled in thus far. Today, we bring you some old timey Storme Troopers straight out of yer’ favorite cowboy space opera in Silent But Deadly (Get it? It’s a silent movie, but not about farts, but also a fart joke is in the title). This classic was a Star Wars Fan Movie Challenge Finalist waaaaay back in 2002.

  4. Tournament Winners Week 9: Barats & Bereta Edition

At this rate, we’re going to put Barats and Bereta’s kids through college! These guys won both 2nd and 3rd place this week, not to mention MANtage , which won a cool $1,500 last month. That makes Barats and Bereta the highest grossing Tournament winners of all time. Their closets are totally full of Atom T-shirts!

Hit the jump for the top ten videos this week.

  5. Cyrus Director Lends Advice To New Filmmakers

In honor of Mark Duplass’ (of the Duplass brothers) new movie Cyrus, which opens today, the dudes at IAmRogue have posted an interview with the filmmaker himself. Not only is it awesome advice for first time filmmakers, but Mark mentions his own Atom classic, This Is John, which we picked up waaaaay back when. We’re thrilled that the Mark is doing so well, that IAmRogue was kind enough to shoot an interview, and that we happen to still have a complementary video on our site. It’s all thrilling, really. Hit the jump for Mark’s first Sundance hit, This Is John.

  6. Weekend Watch: BEST-usey Edition

Every week we comb through Tournament submissions to find the best videos below the radar. Hit the jump to see who made it.

  7. Star Wars Fan Movie Challenge Flashback: For Love Of The Film

In honor of this years’ Star Wars Fan Movie Challenge, we’re looking back over nine years of winning fan movies, and highlighting our favorites. Be sure to get your fan movie in by the June 24th deadline!

For Love Of The Film embodies what I love most about the Star Wars community. It’s a film about fans who love a movie together, and join together to participate in its world.  Geroge Lucas must think so too, since he awarded it the Star Wars Fan Movie George Lucas Selects award in 2005. Hit the jump for this Star Wars classic.

  8. Scrappers Is About Hauling Garbage And Not Fighting, FYI

I guess not everyone in Brooklyn spends their days riding around on a fixed gear, dating American Apparel models, and going to sick dance parties. Some of them haul garbage for a living and make bizarre commercials for their companies and then become reality TV stars. I’m talking ’bout Scrappers –obviously — which is a show on Spike that premieres August 3rd 10pm/9c.  It sort of looks like a mix between Jersey Shore and hoarders? I dunno.  Hit the jump for the video. It puts all other weird, home made, local commercials to shame. Crazy Gideon can eat his heart out.

  9. Home Page Hitters

You’ve probably noticed over the passed few weeks we’ve been featuring some of our favorite videos. They represent some of the best we’ve seen in the Tournament, and as such, merit their own blog post too. Check out some of the lucky videos that made it on to our Home page, and why they made it there.

  10. Johnny B. Homeless – Beer Pong Adventures

Bouncing around from couch to couch can be tough work. That’s why it’s a good idea to relax with a game a beer pong a few times a night. We got resident expert Johnny B. Homeless, star of our newest series Johnny B. Homeless, to help you out, dropping knowledge on how to drop any type of beer pong competition. For all your beer pong needs, check out BPong.com

The Venue: UCLA Grad School Party
The good thing about grad school parties is the beer flows freely and it’s almost always the good stuff.

The bad thing is I hardly know what any of these people are talking about. I can talk to anybody, but I don’t care who’s running for the Senate this year; I don’t even play fantasy football.

    The Opponents: Former Frat Boys
Frat guys who try to pretend they’re no longer frat guys are nuts. I think I play a lot of beer pong, but these guys have muscle memory that would make Tiger Woods jealous.

The Strategy: The Power of Music
If there’s one thing I’ve learned about frat dudes, it’s that when they’re drunk they love singing along to the cheesiest music ever made.

I ask to plug in my iPod. Letting a black guy choose the music at a party is pretty much the same as if Obama showed up and gave everyone a high five, so I know I’ll be good. I let some crazy broad load OAR’s “That Was a Crazy Game of Poker” into my iTunes a few years ago hoping it would help get me some. Unlike then, hopefully this plan will be a success.

    The Outcome: Victory
Apparently it’s a lot harder to sink ping pong balls when you are screaming “oh-aye-revolution” at the top of your lungs.

But the best thing about hammered frat boys is they’re always the first to get the “drunken munchies.” Before I started the next game, I sent them off on a taco run. Victory numero dos.

The Final Word: One drunk frat boy in the hand is worth two tacos in the mouth. Good times.

Check out one of Johnny’s less successful beer pong adventures:
