In writing the Galaxy News script, we decided that we want the crawl at the bottom of the newscast to be five minutes of original, never repeating Star Wars news stories and one-liners.

Speaking of aiming low, Woodcreek Faction pitched Olivia Yoda Porn as their entry into the contest. I’m just saying.

My favorite, though, comes from StarWarrior…

As if we have any more time or money to spend making another video. The whole point was to get you guys to do the work.  We have faith in your fellow contestants abilities, so should you. (ED: We should note, most importantly, that we are not in any way owned by G4.)

So listen guys, let’s put an end to the complaining here and now, ok? There’s always the Star Wars Fan Movie Challenge next summer, judged by GEORGE  LUCAS, so there’s still plenty of opportunity to be had.

The Galaxy News crew are a bunch of stand up individuals, and I think you’ll enjoy following their exploits as they make the film.  They’ll be posting story ideas on the boards, so there’s still the opportunity to have your ideas heard.

I know that still leaves a lot of questions hanging in the air. Plenty of speculation will occur on the boards, no doubt. In the meantime, I’m going to go re-watch the original trilogy. I think I’m running out of Star Wars puns, and you guys are going to keep me busy for sometime.

Whoa, you guys. I know the deadline is almost here, but you really put on the afterburners. There are so many new submissions, I’ve hardly had time to watch them all (let alone write a snappy blog about them). Well done, chums!

Operation Olivia: Reluctance of the Sith

One might expect that the talent behind Issues: the Series to have the geek-cred to pull off a solid Op Olivia pitch. One would be correct. This video seems to be a community favorite as well, if the discussion boards are any indicator.

And as Robert Reeves points out, if TheGreatYoda‘s pitch isn’t picked, he’s still got a dead ringer for Olivia at his disposal.

Vera VanGaurd pitches Olivia Munn and ATOM.com

User Stormgod Studios (AKA Vera Vanguard) uploaded a kick ass pitch that mixes the mundane, day-to-day lives of Star Wars characters with a kick-ass fight sequence. Nice pairing. I have to give props for explaining your plan. Thoroughness is key in  executing your vision. I definitely feel like Vera knows what she’s doing.

User “Blue Reaper and Night Owl” came through with two pitches recently and have some vocal fans on the boards.

Bounty Hunter Academy

Obehave wan‘s Bounty Hunter Academy may be reminiscent of a few other “Academy” pitches, but it’s clear that “Obehave” has put some real thought into his script. Generally speaking, you’ve all exhibited a pretty extensive knowledge of the SW mythology. I like that. Referencing pre-existing, deep universe, characters without sacrificing comedic quality takes real chops.

Extra props to XX for turning me onto MC Chris. My backpack’s Got Jets has been bumping from my cube all day*

Hey there fanboys and fanladies!

Another week in the Operation Olivia countdown is over, and some serious contenders uploaded videos. I’ll be doing a weekly round-up of the Atom team’s favorite videos uploaded, as well as offering some constructive feedback and discussion on the ideas bouncing around the site.

As plenty of you know, Olivia dropped by the blog to offer some encouragement…

As Olivia noticed, some of the uploads were more polished, some were really raw, but I think that almost of all of them had that special spark of ingenuity, creativity, and passion that I’ve come to expect from the fan community. Here are a few favorites for this week:

The guys at Studio 8 are not only contestants in the Upload Showdown this week, but also cranked out a great pitch video. Though they didn’t go so far as to film their idea for us, they did do a great job of explaining what makes their idea special. I’m convinced that they could actually pull of their video, even without supplemental materials.

Kudos to user Nos402 for actually filming excerpts from his film. Nothing makes your intentions more clear than a rough draft. This was tight, funny, and to the point. Also, nut crunching dances are pretty funny.

And finally, The Janitor Strikes Back. Extra points for this uploader’s porn stache, and for the weird Burrito video inserts. There are few things that gross me out, and I love burritos, but something about that video didn’t sit well with me. The image of someone smearing burrito supreme all over their face has haunted me the last few days, so consider yourself warned (seriously).

As the deadline (12:00pm PT on Sept. 3rd) approaches we’re receiving more and more entries. Please, if you come across a video worthy of discussion in this blog, feel free to drop me a line in the discussion boards. I’m counting on you to help nominate the best and brightest film makers for this blog. If you think there’s a video worth highlighting or discussing, LET ME KNOW.

One of the OMFG members in attendance was fellow panelist Reeves, who won last year’s “George Lucas Selects” award for his fan film “Padme.” Reeves presented Munn a pie before the panel, but (sorry Robert) Munn’s pregnant producer, Kristen Rutherford, was overheard saying she was going to eat it before the panel was finished.

As expected, Munn dominated the panel with tales of her love of Star Wars, and pie. The multitalented actress-sex symbol even indulged in a little beat-boxing for the audience, displaying some highly impressive skillz, before Gangsta Rap’s Crawford one-upped her with a brief but professional-caliber burst of his own.

The session showcased some great moments from Star Wars fans, including a 5-minute montage of past fan film winners, a 1-minute preview of Atom’s upcoming Star Wars Gangsta Rap sequel, and a discussion on whether each panelist would rather be a Jedi or a Sith (Reeves was the only panelist to choose Jedi; it turns out even Lucasfilm’s Gannon prefers the Dark Side). Crawford also revealed the secret to his hitmaking: “peyote.”

Anyway, back to the main theme of the evening … Munn’s advice for Operation Olivia entrants? Pitch her something funny, with a well-thought-out story (beginning, middle, end), that doesn’t involve make-out scenes… unless it’s a makeout scene with a pie.

After the panel Munn showed why she’s built such a loyal fan base, lingering after the panel for a long time to take photos and sign autographs with just about everyone in the room. Including this guy…

So imagine my nerdy delight when I showed up for my second day of work here at Atom, and they told me that we’d gotten the queen of geek girls to make Star Wars fan films with us – Olivia Munn!

Olivia is the crown jewel of geekdom to fanboys the world over. You’ve seen her as host of Attack of the Show, on this month’s Playboy cover, and here on Atom. And she’ll be with us as she graces  the annual steaming mass of humanity known as Comic Con this weekend. Master Munn will be live to premiere the first video she’s produced with Atom through her new project “Operation Olivia: The Star Wars Challenge” Friday night at 8:30pm. She’ll be sharing some juicy details, as well as participating in Atom’s “Star Wars fan movie” panel Saturday at 8:30 pm. Be sure to snag a photo so your buddies believe you actually met her.

Absolute chaos. The line ran clear around the corner. In fact, Comic-Con (aka The Man) had to shut it all down as the aisles were just at a deadlock. A pure flash mob of drooling, ogling nerdom — as their queen was in the house. Playboy mags (Olivia dons this month’s cover) were being signed. Photos were being taken. Dreams fulfilled. Check the scene out…

Thursday at Comic-Con, 4:15pm:

Atom is Rocking Comic-Con 2009!

Keep up with Atom as we shake up this year’s Comic-Con in San Diego! We have our annual STAR WARS FAN MOVIE AWARDS and FAN MOVIE PANEL, the LEGEND OF NEIL: SEASON 2 world premiere, and a mack booth (3445) with green-screen photos, Rock Band, and special appearances! STAR WARS FAN MOVIE CHALLENGE AWARDS!

(8:30-10:30pm, Ballroom 20.) Never a better time to bust out your Jawa outfit. Come see which fan movies are crowned this year’s champions! Atom had 22 finalists, ranging from sexy lightsaber duels to Lord Vader having his cape shrunk by the drycleaner. Oh, Vader.  Hmm… which shall be George Lucas’ pick? Olivia Munn (G4’s Attack of the Show), Star Wars Gangsta Rap creator Chris Crawford, and other guest stars shall be on hand.

Saturday, 7/25:

LEGEND OF NEIL: SEASON 2 PREMIERE!

(7:30-8:30pm, Room 7AB.) Indeed, you’ve waited long enough for more LON. “The Godfather, Part II” of Atom Original Series is in the house –making autoerotic asphyxiation funny again.  (Damn you, Carradine… and the INXS guy.) Following the screening is a Q&A with creator Sandeep Parikh and stars Tony Janning and Felicia Day.

STAR WARS FAN MOVIE PANEL!

(8:30-9:30pm, Room 7AB.) Atom, Lucasfilm, Olivia Munn (G4’s Attack of the Show), and past winners talk fan movie shop like you’ve never heard before. Learn about Olivia’s groovy new Star Wars Challenge project and check out a preview of “Star Wars Gangsta Rap: Chronicles,” the highly-anticipated sequel to “Star Wars Gangsta Rap.”
