Fan Movie on Spike

Dear Star Wars fans,

You now have two reasons to tune in to Spike on Saturday March 14th at 9PM. The first is The Empire Strikes Back, which we know you love because, hey, you're on this page. The second is the television debut of "Sudden Remakes" — a Star Wars Fan Movie Challenge 2009 Finalist which illustrates the Star Wars franchise reimagined with Arnold Schwarzenegger.

"Sudden Remakes" will air during Spike's presentation of The Empire Strikes Back, so start watching at 9PM and don't un-glue your eyes 'til it's over. Yeah, as if we had to tell you.

Web videos on television! It's like TV on the Radio, but less hairy. Enjoy!

Love,
Atom

Atom at Comic Con 2008

If you're a Star Wars fanatic, chances are Comic Con is your Graceland. You love space, robots and lasers, and you love other people who love space, robots, and lasers. And Comic Con is probably the largest collection of space-robot-laser enthusiasts in the continental United States… possibly the world.

So now imagine you're the Elvis of Comic Con -- only you're still alive -- and instead of being famous for singing, you're famous for creating a totally kick ass Star Wars Fan Movie!

This is just one of the many awesome perks of the Star Wars Fan Movie Challenge. If your movie wins, your award is presented to you live at a special presentation at Comic Con -- like the Oscars but with booth babes!

Two Ninja Babes take a break from ninja-ing at the Atom booth.

You'll also get to hang out at the Atom booth and meet other purveyors of internet hilarity. Check out some pics from Atom at Comic Con 2008:

Border Patrol co-creators Ben McMillan and Josh Greenbaum and co-star Tom Lenk (of "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" fame) created a fan frenzy. Here they are talking to a robot with a human arm.

Paraphrase Theater creator Will Carlough kickin' it with the Atom team. He was awarded Best Comedy in the Star Wars Fan Movie Challenge. As you can see, he and the award statuette are now inseparable.

Legend of Neil creator Sandeep Parikh demonstrates the Zelda adage, "It's dangerous to go alone - take this ... group of people."

Benny, Escaped Convict co-creator Ryan Levin meets fans who share his love of a dirty stoat who swears like a sailor.

Music and SFX: What's the Dealio?

A lot of you have questions about using Star Wars music and sound effects in your fan movie, because what is a fan movie without Chewie's wookie yell, or the unmistakable whir of a freshly-lit lightsaber?

You don't have to use Star Wars music and sound effects in your movie, but if you do, here are a few rules to keep in mind:

  • You may use two Star Wars music cues in your film. A cue is a segment of music up to 59 seconds long.
  • Your Star Wars music cues cannot be continuous. They must come from separate parts of the original music. For example, you cannot take one music cue from 0:01 - 0:59 seconds of the original song, and have your next cue be 1:00 - 1:59 from the same song.

Other suggestions for making your fan film can be found right here. We've also compiled a handy little collection of sound effects in our Production Kit from blasters to landspeeders to get your creative juices flowing.
Good luck… neeeeeooorrrrrr (lightsaber sound)!

Star Wars Gangsta Rap: Chronicles may have kicked off this year's competition, but there's still plenty of time to submit before the deadline.
