Over the last few years, many tools have tried to crack the code of domain valuation, but most fall short. Why? Because pricing a domain is inherently complex, with many (tangible and intangible) factors influencing its value.

Traditionally, appraisal tools have relied heavily on metrics like traffic and search volume. While these can be useful, this is not typical of how end users are buying domains for their startups. These metrics often miss the mark with Brandable domains—names that stand out because they evoke emotions, create strong associations, and make memorable brands.

At Atom, we wanted to build something different. Our goal has been to create a tool that doesn’t just crunch numbers but goes deeper in understanding the essence of what makes a domain valuable.

We have been working on an internal pricing tool for couple of years and we launched our first public Beta a few months ago. Although it was a good first step, it was far from perfect. Since then, we’ve been refining the tool, training new AI models to factor in branding principles, word synergy, TLD popularity, and the real-world applications of domains.

Our V2 Domain Appraisal Tool Is Now Live

Today, we’re excited to introduce V2 of our appraisal tool. Here’s what’s improved:

Additional Signals Related To Commercial Usage: The tool now takes into account the applicability of domain name in commerce based on several additional signals

Support for More Extensions: Beyond .com, the tool now supports many more extensions such as .ai, .io, .co, .org, and more.

Super-Fast Results: The tool is now much quicker, delivering almost instant valuations.

While V2 is a significant upgrade, it’s still far from perfect. If you dig deep enough, you will likely find a few valuations that might make you scratch your head.

Why Consistency Matters

For those who don’t live and breathe domain pricing, having a framework built on over 50 signals can provide a method to the madness. While it won’t do all the work for you, it’s a good starting point that helps bring some structure to what can feel like a guessing game. A consistent framework to price domains can not only be helpful in retail pricing, it can also help make better acquisition decisions. At scale, it can uncover hidden gems, for example domains with high retail value-to-cost ratios, making acquisition decisions more objective and strategic. We plan to integrate these insights directly into the seller dashboard, auction dashboard and may even open them up via APIs in the future. Most importantly, we’ll use this data as one of the key inputs for pricing domains on the Atom.com marketplace, aiming for greater consistency and accuracy across the board.

Share Your Feedback

We’d love for you to try it out and share your thoughts. If you find a valuation that seems way off, let us know—or share it publicly (we wouldn’t be offended 😊). Your feedback is important in helping us refine the tool further.

Our ultimate goal is simple: to create a domain appraisal tool that’s genuinely helpful and improves over time. It might not be perfect yet, but with your input, we’ll get closer.

Give it a try and let us know how we can make it better!

Try Our V2 Domain Appraisal Tool

Pricing a domain isn’t an exact science—it’s more of a balancing act between data and instinct.
