Over the last few weeks, we have been quietly working on one of the biggest updates to search and discovery we have ever shipped at Atom. Today, that update is live.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Search has always been the heart of the platform. It is the part that decides which names buyers see, which names spark interest, and which ideas eventually turn into real businesses. And while we have made steady progress throughout the year, we began noticing something that we could not ignore. Too many great names were simply not being seen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

So we stepped back and took a hard look at the data. We watched real buyer sessions, analyzed how people searched, and studied what they ultimately purchased. That work surfaced one clear pattern.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Our results were becoming too literal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For many queries, exact keyword matches were being over-prioritized. The creative, brandable names that buyers often fall in love with were buried behind names that looked correct on paper but did not reflect true intent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The data confirmed it. More than sixty percent of names purchased on Atom did not contain the exact keyword the buyer searched for. Founders weren\u2019t looking for a word. They were looking for a direction, a vibe, an identity. Our system didn\u2019t fully reflect that.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

So we rebuilt our AI layers from the ground up and created a multi-step workflow that thinks more like a buyer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Layer 1: Discovery<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

We identify all names that could logically fit the query, including the brandable ideas that connect through meaning, tone, or category rather than exact spelling.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Layer 2: Persona Evaluation<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

A new set of AI agents evaluates each domain from the perspective of different buyer personas, the way an actual founder, marketer, or product leader would. These agents understand positioning, emotional tone, industry resonance, and long-term brand potential.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Layer 3: Behavior-Based Reranking<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The final layer applies real buyer interaction data to rerank the list. It prioritizes the types of names that buyers actually choose, shortlist, revisit, and ultimately purchase.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The result is a system built around intention, not text matching. Brandables are surfaced with the visibility they deserve. Literal matches stay relevant, but they no longer overshadow better ideas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What This Looks Like in Practice<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

One of the best ways to understand the change is to look at how certain keywords behave now.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Keyword: \u201cbeauty\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Before:<\/em> Search would lean heavily on literal matches<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After:<\/em> The system now understands the broader intent behind \u201cbeauty\u201d and starts surfacing names with the right tone and feel like Eva.com, Lilac.com, ClearBlush.com, SecretNectar.com. The list feels more creative and founder-like.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This same improvement shows up across many other keywords. Try searches like fashion, travel, wellness, kids, health, fitness, <\/strong>or AI<\/strong> and the difference is immediately noticeable. The engine now understands the meaning behind the query, not just the literal words. Exact-match names still appear and remain part of the results, but they no longer crowd out the brandable or concept-driven names that often make more sense for buyers. The overall list feels more balanced and more aligned with how founders actually choose names.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Smarter Understanding of Long-Form Searches<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

We also noticed a shift in how people search. Many buyers now type full sentences or long-form queries like they would talk to a person. Something like:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cstartup helping people build better sleep habits\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Before, this would confuse the system. Today, the search engine automatically infers the true intent, breaks down the concept, and surfaces names that fit the core idea, not the literal text. This makes search feel more natural, more conversational, and more aligned with how founders explore early ideas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

More Sections to Show the Breadth of Ideas<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

To give buyers a broader sense of what is possible, we have also added several new curated sections throughout the search experience. These include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2022 Exact-match results across extensions<\/strong><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

This section highlights domains that match the search term exactly, regardless of extension. It ensures buyers can still find literal matches quickly, even as the broader search becomes more intent-driven.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

These sections help buyers understand the landscape and discover ideas they would never have searched for directly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Improved Semantic Personalization<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

We also rolled out a major upgrade to personalization. In the past, personalization was mostly driven by simple signals, like recently viewed names or saved favorites. Now it goes much deeper. The system can understand the semantic intent<\/em> behind the domains a buyer interacts with and use that insight to shape future discovery.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For example, if someone visits the sale lander for TripMix.com<\/strong>, the system recognizes the themes behind that name: travel, planning, movement, itinerary, adventure. So the next time that buyer returns to the marketplace, they will automatically see names that align with those ideas, even if they did not run a search. It feels natural and relevant, almost like the platform remembers the direction they were exploring.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This level of semantic personalization helps buyers continue their discovery journey without having to repeat the same searches. And it gives sellers an additional path to meaningful exposure, because their names can surface based on real interest signals rather than simple keyword matches.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A New Tool for Sellers<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

We also launched a tool that lets sellers see which of their domains our agents are selecting for top placement across relevant searches. This gives sellers real visibility into how their portfolio is being interpreted and which names have early discovery momentum.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This level of transparency has never existed in the domain world and it opens the door to deeper insight and better decisions. Soon sellers will be able to see these details directly in their dashboard.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Our Mission<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Atom exists to solve one problem. How do we surface the most relevant names to the right buyers based on true intent?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This industry does not suffer from a lack of good names. It suffers from a discovery challenge. Strong domains remain unsold not because they lack potential, but because they never reach the buyer they were meant for.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I remind my team often. We are not selling domains. We are helping founders find the starting point of their story.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A name gives shape to an idea. When discovery works, it connects that idea with the founder who is ready to build it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

That is why we care so much about search. It should not just return matches. It should understand intention, context, and possibility.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This update moves us closer to that vision, and we are not done. Our AI agents continue scanning signals around the clock, learning from real buyer behavior, and improving results every day.
