A few days ago, we launched Domain Rentals on Atom.
The goal was simple: create a new way for buyers to access premium domains without committing to full ownership upfront, while giving sellers an additional way to monetize their assets.
It’s still very early, but the initial response has been encouraging. We’ve already seen several domains rented through the platform, and we’re excited to continue learning from both buyers and sellers as the program evolves.
One piece of feedback we heard quickly from sellers was around rental pricing, particularly for higher-priced domains.
Our original default was to price rentals at 2% of the Buy-It-Now (BIN) price. While that may work well for many domains, sellers pointed out that the resulting monthly payment can feel too high as domain values increase.
For example, a $100,000 domain priced at 2% would result in a $2,000 monthly rental payment. While appropriate in some cases, many sellers felt that lower percentages could make higher-value domains more attractive to renters and potentially increase overall demand.
Based on that feedback, we’ve introduced additional pricing controls.
New Rental Pricing Options
Sellers can now customize rental pricing by domain value range:

These are recommendations only. Sellers remain in control and can choose the percentages that best fit their portfolio and strategy.
Individual Domain Pricing
We’ve also added the ability to set a completely custom rental price on individual domains.

This means sellers can now:
- Use portfolio-wide pricing rules as a default
- Override those rules for specific domains
- Set any custom monthly rental amount they feel is appropriate for a particular name
For example, a seller could use a 1% portfolio-wide rule for six-figure domains, while choosing a completely different monthly rental amount for a small number of premium names they believe warrant special pricing.
Continuing to Learn
Domain Rentals are a new category for Atom, and we don’t pretend to have all the answers yet.
Our approach is straightforward: launch, listen carefully, study the data, and continue improving based on real-world usage.
The early feedback and first rental transactions have been encouraging, but we’re still in the very early innings.
