One of the most common questions buyers have when evaluating a premium domain is:
“How do I know if this is the right price for a name like this?”
Unlike markets such as real estate or equities, domain buyers often have limited access to comparable pricing context when evaluating a specific name. For many founders and entrepreneurs purchasing a premium domain for the first time, this lack of reference points can create uncertainty.
To help address this, we’re introducing a new feature on Atom domain landing pages: Comparable Sales.
What Are Comparable Sales?
With this new feature, buyers can click Comparable Sales directly from a domain’s landing page to view a small set of similar domains that previously sold on the Atom marketplace within a comparable price range.

These comparable domains are selected using a combination of:
- semantic similarity
- brand structure analysis
- pricing relevance
The goal is to provide helpful context without overwhelming buyers with too much data. By showing a curated set of relevant marketplace sales, buyers can better understand how a domain’s pricing fits within the broader market.
Running as an A/B Experiment
As with many product improvements on Atom, this feature is being introduced as an A/B experiment.
Not all domain landing pages will show comparable sales, and not all buyers will see the feature during this testing period. This allows us to evaluate how the feature affects real buyer behavior compared to a control group.
Over the coming months, we will monitor the impact on key marketplace metrics such as buyer engagement and sell-through rate (STR).
If the data shows that comparable sales help buyers make decisions with greater confidence, we may expand the feature further. If not, we will continue refining the approach.
Seller Control
We recognize that some sellers may prefer not to display comparable sales alongside their domain listings.
For this reason, sellers have the option to opt out of showing comparable sales from their Marketplace settings page. This ensures sellers retain control over how their domains are presented while we continue testing the feature.

Building with Data
Marketplace design often involves balancing different perspectives from buyers and sellers. Rather than relying on assumptions, our approach is to test ideas using real marketplace data and let the results guide future decisions.
The Comparable Sales feature is part of that ongoing effort to improve transparency, reduce buyer uncertainty, and make the domain purchasing process more intuitive for entrepreneurs and businesses.
We’re excited to see what the data reveals as this experiment progresses.
